FIRST ANNUAL ROAD CREW WORKDAY – Saturday, June 6th, 8am – 12pm, plan to meet at the Lodge.
Plan is to start at the front gate and work up SMP as far as we can go. We will be placing gravel and dirt along the edge of the paved roads where erosion has occurred.
What we need is several crews of 3-4 people to shovel in gravel and dirt, rake it smooth and seed it. If you have a UTV/SxS we can use it to move small amounts of gravel and dirt and transport the workers.
The best way to describe this work is to watch the classic movie “Cool Hand Luke” and how the road work crew performed. We even may be able to get Alvin to eat some hard-boiled eggs.
MOVIE NIGHT – Movie Night at The Lodge is tonight! Join us Friday, May 29th at 8:00 PM for an outdoor showing of the comedy classic The Great Outdoors… because nothing says “relaxing community evening” like raccoons, bears, and John Candy. Please bring your own: Chair or blanket, Drinks, Snacks, Any additional survival equipment for a night in the wilds of The Lodge pavilion air-popped popcorn will be available while supplies last. Come enjoy a fun night under the stars with neighbors, laughs, and hopefully fewer mosquitoes than the movie had bears.
MOUNTAIN WOMEN’S LUNCH BUNCH – Our next Mountain Women’s Lunch Bunch will be on Wednesday, June 3rd at The Lodge at 12:30. Bring your own lunch and some to share if you would like. All ladies are welcome!
HAPPY HOUR – At the Lodge on June 7th & 28th at 5:00 pm. Bring an appetizer or dessert to share. Ginny Lummus & Donna Brunson will be hosts this month.
ANNUAL PICNIC – The Preserve Annual Picnic is almost here! All residents are invited to join us on Saturday, June 13th from 5:30–8:30 PM for an evening filled with food, music, laughter, and community fun. The Preserve will provide the BBQ. Residents are invited to bring a side dish or dessert to share. And now for the sweet part…This year we’re adding a brand-new event to the festivities: The Strawberry Showdown! Residents are invited to bring a strawberry-inspired dessert to enter our first-ever dessert competition. Homemade masterpieces and store-bought-with-flair creations are both welcome. Need inspiration? Think: Strawberry shortcake, Cheesecake, Strawberry pie, Bars, trifles, cookies, cobblers, cupcakes & other berry delicious creations! The esteemed Board of Directors will serve as the official judging panel, bravely tasting their way through the entries in search of The Preserve’s ultimate strawberry champion. Glory, bragging rights, and possibly powdered sugar-covered fame await. Come hungry, bring your sweet tooth, and get ready for a berry fun evening with neighbors! Please RSVP with your side dish or dessert choice by June 10th to: Donna Brunson at: dsbrunson@gmail.com. We all know that this event is a lot of work preparing and cleaning up. We will be setting up on Saturday morning at 9:30 at The Lodge. If you would like to help set up and/or clean up, please let Elizabeth Wilke know at 678-596-5545 or elizabethwilke17@gmail.com. We would greatly appreciate it!
As an optional community outreach effort during the picnic, residents are welcome to bring pantry donations for Pickens Feeds Pickens if you would like to participate. Please know this is completely voluntary and simply an extra opportunity for anyone who may wish to contribute—no obligation whatsoever. This community-wide effort helps keep the Little Free Food Pantries at our local schools stocked throughout the summer, so children and families continue to have access to food while school is out. Our donations will support Tate Elementary School’s Little Free Pantry during the week of June 22nd. Items that are especially helpful are kid-friendly, shelf-stable foods that are easy for children to open and prepare, including: Peanut butter & jelly, Mac & cheese cups, Granola bars, Fruit cups & applesauce. Ramen noodles, Soup, ravioli, or spaghetti cans, Crackers & snack packs, Oatmeal packets, Shelf-stable milk & juice boxes. Whether you bring a donation or not, we’re looking forward to a wonderful evening together at the picnic.
CUL-DE-SAC SOCIAL – Remember summer nights as kids… riding bikes, chasing fireflies, playing in cul-de-sacs until the streetlights flickered on and someone yelled, “Time to come home!”? We’re bringing back a little of that easy summer magic—with a grown-up version (and better snacks). Join your neighbors for the very first Cul-de-Sac Social hosted by David & Elizabeth Wilke on Terrace Way! WHERE? Terrace Way Cul-de-Sac. WHEN? Friday, June 19th at 6:30 PM until the streetlights come on- errr or until it is too dark to see! This is as casual as it gets: Bring your own chair, bring a lantern or two, bring your own snacks and maybe some to share, bring your own drinks and bring your neighborly spirit! The Wilkes will provide music, a few games, a big trough of ice for drinks, and a relaxed place to gather, laugh, mingle, and enjoy a summer evening together and maybe a spontaneous dance party (no guarantees… but no promises either). Think front-porch energy meets block party vibes. Wander over, stay awhile, meet someone new, and enjoy one of those simple nights that make neighborhoods feel like community. All residents are welcome—we hope to see you there!
YOGA AT THE LODGE– First & third Wednesdays- weather permitting, at 9:30 AM on the Lawn. This is yoga for every body—no experience, flexibility, or fancy poses required. Just bring a mat, and some water. Led by resident Colleen Kazanchy, you’ll be guided through a gentle, relaxing flow designed to ease tension, quiet the mind, and maybe even spark a few smiles.
Have a wonderful weekend – and if this rain keeps up, we may all need pontoons instead of side by sides!
